GPT as a coder (cont.)

Image
As I said there was another part of the test and we want to look deeper at whether Gpt can code something that works. So I gave it another Leetcode problem. It is still fairly simple but it involves charts, and I noticed Gpt is not quite as good with those. Watch what happens... ChatGpt was a very disappointing coder. I felt very frightened by how deeply it failed, despite claiming to know the solution to the problem. The suggestion it made to not include a class made no sense at all. And the code had simply not worked. It was basically not true that you would not solve that problem yourself. Maybe one could give you some ideas, but there were hints provided (which were supplied to GPT.) I definitely want to tell people if this is a cheap trick for our money. A little more on the positive side, I built an app with it that allows users to log in, and share photos. I was quite disappointed in this app, which had a very unsecure and fickle log in. And it would not display anything with th...

Loads and loads of fun with GPT. Coder? Lawyer? Developer?

Image
I had noticed the disturbing truth about GPT and other Ai's (the reality is it is an industry issue) is that they can simple questions wrong. The truth about Ai's is that they do not think per se. Spoiler alert** they simulate thinking. But what I am wondering about is how they are branded as logical thinkers. Coding involves solving problems. And writing Ai news, writing creative fiction, generating ideas for businesses or Universities requires exact precision, does it have it. The reality. I found through my tests, is that it does not. This articles comes upon the celebration of the release of GPT-5, the all powerful model. It is definitely better at solving logical questions now. It generally had solved easier questions I asked it, but it had not always solved harder ones. It often had failed it. So what better way to test it than have it take the Lsat. Based on what you have read nothing could go wrong, and this would be the best way ever to cheat. It started off well. It ...

'Pearl' 3 of 3.

Pearl part 3 of 3. The finale. Dive back into data and probablities greatest hero, and my great historical/data study through fiction. 1…2…3? Press c or z to pull up the chapter selector. Interlude 2  The world resolved into a choking cloud of dust and the sharp, acrid smell of burning timbers. Pearl Wu coughed, a wracking, painful sound that scraped his raw throat. He pushed a piece of plaster off his chest, the dull ache a counterpoint to the frantic thumping of his own heart. Above him, a jagged hole gaped in the ceiling, revealing a sky stained the bruised and angry colour of a dying fire. The house, or what was left of it, groaned around him, a wounded beast settling into its final, agonizing moments. He had been in the study, poring over a pre-war census of London's East End, fascinated by the demographic shifts, the subtle patterns of segregation that were already taking shape long before the bombs began to fall. The academic paper he’d been reading, ...

Going Deeper: Pearl. 2 of 3.

Pearl. Interlude 1. 2. And Section 4. Interlude: The Calculus of Stability (Part 1)   The return from 1939 Warsaw was always a brutal recalibration. One moment, Pearl Wou was breathing the coal-tinged, fear-laced air of a city under siege; the next, he was enveloped by the sterile, climate-controlled silence of his 2025 Hong Kong apartment. The temporal whiplash was more than just physical. It was a psychic schism, a violent tearing between two incompatible realities. He would stand for long minutes in his workshop, the faint ozone smell of the quantum displacement field dissipating around him, simply breathing. He was a man composed of reconstituted atoms, and sometimes he felt as if the process had left his soul just as unsettled, a collection of particles struggling to find their equilibrium.  He ran the diagnostic on the temporal displacement belt, his eyes scanning the cascading lines of code on the holographic display. The energy expenditure was within expected p...
